Urology is the medical and surgical specialty that deals with problems of the male and female urinary tract (kidneys, ureter, bladder, and urethra) and the male reproductive system. Prostate Cancer Treatment

Treatment of new, recurrent and advanced prostate cancer

The average age of diagnosis of prostate cancer is 69 according to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, but a diagnosis can occur at any age. Our Urology team can diagnose prostate cancer, and offer many treatment options for both newly-diagnosed and recurrent prostate cancers. We utilize and strictly adhere to NCCN guidelines when recommending treatment options for all stages of prostate cancer.

Advanced imaging and diagnostic techniques

We have at our disposal options that go beyond the standard PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood test and digital rectal exam to help diagnose prostate cancer. Some imaging techniques include PET/CT, ultrasound and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).

Male Sexual Health

Impotence and erectile dysfunction

Many men experience temporary bouts of erectile dysfunction (ED) at some point (after a night of heavy drinking, for example), and that doesn’t require a doctor’s intervention. However, it is a good idea to talk to a doctor if impotence persists. Impotence is linked to overall health. In addition to being a problem itself, it may indicate a more serious underlying health problem. ED may be caused by physical issues or psychological issues.

Testosterone replacement for erectile dysfunction

In some cases, ED is a result of low testosterone levels. It’s normal for testosterone levels to fall as men age, and other factors, like stress levels, illness or injury, alcoholism and obesity, can exacerbate the problem. We can find out if testosterone levels are low with a simple blood test. If we determine that this is the cause of ED, we can start a treatment of testosterone replacement. Testosterone can be administered in a variety of forms, including oral medication, topical gel and patch for the skin. This kind of therapy is not appropriate for everyone and should not be used in men with normal levels of testosterone.
